Kwarteng said “nobody had any idea of the actual effects of it until we left the EU…it’s not satisfactory. “It’s not set in stone, it’s not something that was going to last for evermore…no-one thought the protocol was going to define the role of NI within the UK forever”

On 16 November 2018, Kwarteng was appointed Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Exiting the European Union (DExEU), following the resignation of Suella Braverman. Following the election of Boris Johnson as Prime Minister in July 2019, Kwarteng was promoted to Minister of State for Business, Energy and Clean Growth, attending Cabinet as part of the role.

Obviously Neal Richmond stuck his oar in as per usual.

born 23 January 1972 British politician, former Downing Street Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Theresa May. A member of the Conservative Party,  

Member of Parliament (MP) for Croydon Central from 2010 until 2017.

Served as Minister of State for Housing and Planning in the First May ministry.

Barwell was appointed to the Privy Council in April 2017, Shortly after losing his seat, he was appointed Downing Street Chief of Staff by Theresa May, following the resignations of Fiona Hill and Nick Timothy on 10 June 2017. He was awarded a Life Peerage in 2019.
